SecureMyBit bundles together a handful of functions, chief among them being the ability to encrypt/decrypt files or folders. This is done by simply dragging and dropping a file or folder onto SecureMyBit’s interface. Drag & drop the file you want to encrypt, enter a password, and presto, you’ve encrypted the file. Take an encrypted file, drag & drop it, enter the password, and SecureMyBit will decrypt it. It really is that simple!

Moving on, SecureMyBit can do a few other things: generate passwords that contain letters, numbers special characters and even whitespaces; enter a password and SecureMyBit will tell you if it’s strong or not; securely delete (a.k.a. shred) files so they can’t be brought back by a data recovery tool; view a files’s MD5 and secure hash algorithm (SHA); view details information about your system.

SecureMyBit works with Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 (but please note that it requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5). To get SecureMyBit up and running on a Windows-powered PC, you won’t have to install it. You just need to download an archive, extract its contents and run the SecureMyBit executable.

Everything that SecureMyBit can do is very clearly displayed on its interface. The panel on the right hand side tells you to "drag & drop a filer or folder here to encrypt it" and "drag & drop a file or folder here to decrypt it." And the panel on the left hand side lists all the extra bits and pieces that SecureMyBit can do: Password Generator, Password Validator, Secure File Shredder, File Info Viewer, System Specs.

By default, SecureMyBit will generate a log file (TXT) after encryption/decryption. If you find this default behavior annoying, go to the Option menu and disable it.

SecureMyBit is free software.

Get SecureMyBit, a free and portable application for Windows, and use it to encrypt/decrypt files, shred files, generate passwords, and more.

Pros

SecureMyBit is a portable tool that doesn’t need to be installed. SecureMyBit’s interface is quite straightforward. SecureMyBit can encrypt files, decrypt files, shred files, generate passwords, and more. SecureMyBit is free software.

Cons

SecureMyBit doesn’t tell you what algorithm it uses to encrypt data. It would be nice if the Options menu listed several encryption algorithms so you could choose which one to use. While "drag & drop" is fine for some, I for one would like a "browse for file/folder" button.
